This place saved my Amigo. No I don't mean one of my close, personal friends or comrades, rather I mean my tired old 1998 Isuzu Amigo with close to 200K hard miles on it's clock and blown head gasket.I knew my trusty Amigo was going to need some major work in order for it to return to it's role in my life as reliable Grocery Getter, brave off-road adventurer, road trip warrior and all-around do anything, scrappy little SUV however being that this particular model hasn't been built since 2002, I knew I needed to find a place which specialized in Japanese Vehicles.I'm a hard-core DIY wrench turner who rarely takes his trucks anywhere for repairs or service (I generally do many of my own repairs) however major engine work is outside my comfort level, so when a friend recommended Tokyo Auto and I limped my ailing Amigo in on a busy Friday afternoon. Tatsu took a quick look at my tired SUV and stated that if I left it with them they would check it out for me. The next day (Saturday) he called to tell me that I did indeed have a blown headgasket. We talked about repair options and he laughed when I jokingly asked about driving it around on three cylinders (a little Gear Head humor there) and confident that my trusted Compadre was in capable hands I gave him the go-ahead to go about making the needed repairs.Being that my vehicle was 1) Old 2) Equipped with an engine (3.2 V6) which wasn't really popular 3) Had extensive damage requiring the replacement of one Cylinder Head the repair was pricey and took some time, which is to be expected but I still had my little rig back within a couple of weeks.Following that much extensive engine work I almost expected to have to take it back at least once for some adjustment or minor repair, but I'm happy to report that after two months and just over 1,000 miles of mixed city, highway and off-roading my little Amigo is back to being the scrappy, fun to drive, do anything SUV I've come to know and love! Thanks Tokyo Automotive!

I have brought my Subaru here several times. I'm from out-of-state & needed a trustworthy place...so glad I found one! They are honest and helpful. They were willing to talk to my dad on the phone a couple of times when I was unsure of specific problems with my car. They even called to follow up on the service :)Highly recommend!

I went to see Tatsu Tsuchida for my motorcycle's magnesium clutch cover because the motorcycle shop told me they couldn't help me retap a stripped screw hole. In fact they told me to just replace it. Problem is this part is hard to find. So I asked Tatsu if he could retap the clutch cover. He said he could and I came in right when they opened Monday morning. Not only did he fix my problem but he felt confident enough to let me watch him work. Tatsu made sure that he was doing the job with precision since he busted out the digital caliper to ensure that the quality of his work had no flaws.

I will forever buy a Toyota so I can keep my mechanic! He's trustworthy, fair, and my safety is his top priority always. Thank you Tatsu, you are awesome!

I think finding good, trustworthy mechanics are like finding a needle in the haystack. I dont trust many people working on my cars; call me paranoid but most mechanics I've run across are shady and total hacks; which is why I usually do my own work when I can. This place is different. Its a true mom and pop shop with people that actually do good work there. So if you do happen to find a needle in the haystack like this place.. hang on to it for dear life! I brought my car in to this place recently, and I must say that I was pretty satisfied with the work they had done. That should mean a lot coming from someone who works on their own cars -- we tend to be super critical of other peoples work.People always used to ask me if I knew a good mechanic. I used to say no, but now I can say "why yes I do.. Tokyo Automotive Repair" :D

Annie and her husband Chuck are fellow car enthusiasts and MotoIQ columnists. They have high standards when it comes to auto repair and I take it as a total compliment that they asked me to work on their car ...albeit it wasn't one of their race cars, But yet it was their daily driver the RX300.But yeah, woo hoo! I worked on one of their cars!!!

Although I now live in Newport Beach, it's worth the drive to have them service my cars. Thank you!

Blown away! I got customers that come from far away as Northern San Diego County. I am always elated to hear when customers drive from far away to see me.

I have been very satisfied with their work on my Mazda and Toyota. This repair shop definitely makes you feel that they are not doing unnecessary repairs just to pad the bill, but rather doing quality repairs on only what needs to be fixed. Maybe they are not the cheapest, but I've never felt like I am getting taken advantage of due to my lack of knowledge, like at some repair shops and dealerships. It is definitely a mom & pop shop, so no fancy waiting room or splashy extras, but I will take quality work and fair dealings over plush digs and shady practices any day of the week.

Your '01 Protoge according to blue book might not be worth much, but with only 80K on the clock and an immaculate body/interior, is still a great commuter car. Cars of this age and make generally don't hold up as well as this one. Might be a testament to how well the owner has treated it. I know that last bill was a little steep, but that's just the nature of a Catalytic. Anyways I'm trying to rationalize your purchase, if not to you then to the viewing public. Basically I'm saying that car will drive great for another 10 years easy. Thanks for the great review and I appreciate the many years you've been bringing your cars to us.

I got my tires changed here, because the old ones were just bald. Tatso offered me a deal so I couldn't say no. But I have this pet peeve of always NOT getting my wheels balanced right every time I rotated or changed tires before. I hate to get out and ride on the freeway and having my steering wheel shaking all over the place like it's going to fall off. And before I had to go back and ask to re-balance them, so I thought I will feel bad if I'll have to do this to Tatsu, But after all, since I had to spend my money somewhere I'd better spend it in here anyway, he got recommended by friends. What I liked here is the wifi that actually works fine, not just some weak signal from a 10 year old router. Also they have a room with a table or desk for your laptop or whatever, I didn't see that before in a auto shop, great Idea. He also recommended to change the oil since it was time, so I did that too, thanks for checking that mileage sticker. Well, for the first time in a while I didn't get ANY shake in my steering wheel and they also put the correct tire pressure for my car (that's another pet peeve of mine, but this one I usually fix myself) and for all this I'll give you 5 stars my friend!

For the sake of transparency, Gabe is my friend. I always love it when I can make friends my customers, and vice versa. But just because Gabe is my friend, I don't take that for granted. I tend to think that he's a sophisticated customer and demands perfection. You know that old saying "If you don't have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all." Well lets just say the fact Gabe chimed in, I'm absolutely flattered!
