Even though we are heading into fall, we still live in a great part of the world where weather usually affords us road trip fun year around. Whether you’re heading out for the weekend or planning a trip to the in-laws for Thanksgiving, it’s always nice to have some activities planned to help keep your kiddos and other passengers entertained. No one benefits from a bored back seat! Here are a few ideas to keep the miles flying by:
Sticker books: Who doesn’t love stickers. Have a few different ones on hand along with a shoebox and let them go to town decorating a shoebox they can use for all different kinds of storage needs when you get back home.
Audiobooks: This can help avoid both boredom and motion sickness. Choose a title that will make everyone happy or bring along a set of headphones for the one person who wants to listen to scary ghost stories to help pass the time.
Edible Necklaces: If you have the time, you can make fun edible necklaces that will keep your passenger fed as well as entertained. String up popcorn, raisins, small pieces of beef jerky, and other dried fruits for a fun tasty road trip treat.
Movies: You can either hook up a movie to a system in your vehicle and if it’s not set up for that, then bring along a pair of headphones and an iPad or even iPhone! You don’t need a huge screen to get a lot of satisfaction from watching a movie on the road.
Goodie Bag: This is great for just about any age. Everyone likes a surprise goodie back full of treats, small coloring books, and fun crayons or coloring pens.
I-Spy: This is an oldie-but-goody that can help pass the time in another fun way. In case you don’t know, the person who’s “it” says, “I spy with my little eye” and the other players have to guess what it was the spy saw.
